Many of the 72 logos on display are identified with color-coded tags highlighting different aspects of the work:
• Nonprofit organizations — logos created for nonprofit and community organizations
• Still in use — identities that continue in active use, including one that’s been working since 1986
• University of Dallas connections — logos designed for clients associated with the University of Dallas

Color dots indicate whether logos are still in use, created for nonprofit clients, or have a University of Dallas connection.

Background
FigDesign was founded in 1986 by David Fiegenschue, who is lead designer and creative director. The company brings together experts in related fields to solve a variety of branding and marketing problems for midsize organizations and corporations.
In the early 1980s, Fiegenschue managed Marketing Services at Future Computing, a market research company. He developed the company logo and identity system and directed a team of designers and writers that produced newsletters, brochures, trade show design, signage and other corporate materials.
During his time there, he worked with new technologies and computer systems including the Apple Lisa and LaserWriter. He was an early user of the page layout software tool PageMaker and drawing programs like MacDraw and FreeHand.
Future Computing was acquired by McGraw-Hill, and rather than accept a position at their New York headquarters, he launched FigDesign in 1986. The firm located first in the Galleria, then in Las Colinas, and in 1996 moved to the historic 1925 Caldwell House in the Irving Heritage District.
Fiegenschue holds both a BA from the University of Dallas (UD) and an MFA from Texas Christian University (TCU) in Printmaking, specifically hand lithography. He has a special appreciation for typography and the written word that shows in his private work.
He has developed and taught design courses at Brookhaven College, lectured at the University of Phoenix, and created and taught a course on Self Promotion to graduate art students at the University of Dallas. Contributions to local education include stints on the Portfolio Review Committee of the Art Institute of Dallas and on the Graphic Arts Curriculum Review Council at North Lake College.
The FigB®and exhibit, featuring examples of his logo design work, has been shown at Brookhaven College, the Art Institute of Dallas and the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA).
